Perpetually In Between
Middendorf Gallery | Baltimore, MD
April 08—18, 2016
This exhibition consists of work from artists that identify with the term Third Culture Kid (TCK). However, this exhibition is also redefining the archaic definition for that term into the context of living in America today.
Third Culture Kids (TCK) as it was defined: refered to children who were raised in a culture outside of their parents’ for a significant part of their development years. This term integrates aspects of one of birth culture (the first culture) and the new culture (the second culture), creating a unique "third culture". TCK builds relationships to all of the cultures, while not having full ownership in any. Although elements from each culture are assimulated into the TCK’s life experience, the sense of belonging is in relationship to others of similar background.
Artists: Eric Rivera, Katie Wolfe, Anthony Nguyen, Clarissa Iskandar, Catherine Khamnouane, Luz Orozco, Maya Medrano, Kai Lun Qu, and Ian Mitchell.
Curators: Valeria Fuentes, Zoë Elena Moldenhauer, and Elizabeth Ortiz-Ramos.
