Sacha Italia Café Cultural | San Roque de Cumbaza, Peru
August 2, 2024

After four years of collaborating virtually, three artists spent five days exploring and making art together at Sachaqa Centro de Arte artist residency. The exhibit draws from the environment and community of San Roque de Cumbaza, Peru.

Repurposing found materials and natural elements, Hong Kong-based artist, Tamera Bedford, created a chakra. Her piece sought clarity and strength to enrich her artistic practice. New York-based artist, Zoë Elena Moldenhauer, engraves constellations on to leaves. Her piece was inspired by the southern constellations which was a revelation from growing up in New York where the stars are hidden by pollution. From nature walks, Lima-based artist, Carol Updegrave, created a piece “La Danza” inspired by the ecosystem and social encounters in the town of San Roque de Cumbaza.
